Persepolis
continuing my modest efforts to please the two people that reluctantly read this blog, i bring you here yet another brief review of a great animated film i saw recently: Persepolis.
This movie is based on the french autobiographical novel of the same name. It was written and directed by Marjane Satrapi & Vincent Paronnaud. Basically it tells the story of Marjane, and it begins when she was 9 years old living with her relatively open-minded family during the events of the falling monarchy in Iran and the Islamic revolution that came after it in the late 1970's. The Movie's strong point is simplicity, it illustrates the story in simple black and white cartoony style animations, which blends very well with the great music and creates a style of it's own. I don't think i can describe whether the movie is too funny or too dramatic since it has both elements in abundance, some scenes are uplifting while others are very dramatic. In short this movie is truly a vibrant masterpiece that is told with style and passion and i highly recommend it for anybody who remotely likes movies/animation.

The King of Kong, A fistful of Quarters
Here's a documentary i saw yesterday that turned out to be much better than i expected, it follows Steve Wiebe as he tries to take the world high score of the classic arcade game "Donkey Kong" from world champion Billy Mitchell, this is all based on real people and real events.. and has dramatic moments and a lot can be learned from what the characters go through to achieve their goals.. Must see for anyone who likes competitive gaming or classic retro games.

I recently had a chance to watch "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" which is a musical directed by Tim Burton and Starring Johnny Depp as a Barber in 19th Century London which was sentenced to a life of hard work in Australia with false charges and his story of bloody revenge.. and revenge works great for a barber.. imagine the blades and the scissors.. wew.. anyway.. this is a very immersive experience that you will definitely enjoy, specially if you like Tim Burton movies.
Other great Tim Burton movies:
Big Fish
Batman(the very 1st & 2nd one)
Nightmare Before Christmas
Mars Attacks!
